DIADEM

Demonstration event and Transfer Advisory Council meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark.

On June 8, 2011, the DIADEM consortium organized in Copenhagen, Denmark, a demonstration event collocated with the second Transfer Advisory Council (TAC) meeting.

The event consisted of live demonstrations of the integrated DIADEM system followed by a technical discussion with the TAC members. The demonstrations were based on two use cases provided by the Danish Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) and DCMR Milieudienst Rijnmond, respectively. The presentation covered complementary solutions to different aspects of environmental/crisis management:

  • Multi Criteria Decision Analysis and Scenario Based Reasoning (MCDA&SBR) facilitating decision making in complex settings taking into account multiple criteria and uncertain information.
  • Advanced Gas Distribution Modeling (GDM) allowing (i) creation of concentration maps using sensor measurements without assumptions about the source and (ii) planning of further sensor measurements.
  • ARGOS decision support tool providing plume estimates based on assumptions about the source, weather information and further relevant information on chemicals and population.
  • Distributed Gas Detection System (DGDS), a combination of advanced algorithms and human machine interaction supporting early detection of gases and localization of pollution sources using chemical sensors and human reports.
  • Semantic Logging/After Action Analysis Tool facilitating logging in complex collaborative systems and post-incident analysis of the crisis management processes.
  • Negotiation supporting discovery and exploitation of critical resources for incident handling, for instance .specialized equipment and staff,.
  • Dynamic Process Integration Framework (DPIF) supporting (i) efficient communication/collaboration between experts and (ii) integration of various DIADEM components for automated processing.

All solutions were illustrated through working demonstrators. The event was concluded with a roundtable in which TAC members provided feedback for the DIADEM consortium and promising ideas on the exploitation of the DIADEM results were generated.
