DEMA Workshop

The DIADEM partners PDC (www.pdc.dk) and DEMA (www.dema.dk), together with THALES (www.decis.nl) and UNIKARL (http://www-iip.wiwi.uni-karlsruhe.de/IIP), organized a user workshop which took place on March 10th, 2010 at the headquarters of PDC in Copenhagen.

The participants consisted of Danish emergency management professionals, including Local Incident Commanders (LICs), DEMA training officers for police and fire brigade LICs, chemical experts from DEMA as well as personnel from the alarm and control room for the Copenhagen area. The goal of the workshop was to present and demonstrate DIADEM solutions that addressed crisis management for chemical incidents in populated areas, and to elicit the participants’ feedback on the presented solutions.

The general feedback was very positive, as users clearly perceived how the DIADEM system would facilitate communication and provide situation awareness to emergency response personnel as well as provide decision support to decision makers regarding the safety of the population in the threatened areas. From these results, important user requirements have been identified. These requirements will be used in further research and developments in the third phase of the DIADEM project and for the next demonstration and evaluation events.
