MCDA & SBR at the First International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Disaster Management (CIDM-2010).

A scenario-based decision support system for long-term emergency management facilitating decision-making in complex, uncertain situations as found in emergency management was presented at the CIDM-2010. The workshop took place in association with the 2nd International Conference on Intelligent Networking and Collaborative Systems in November 2010 in Thessaloniki, Greece.

The CIDM-2010 workshop provided the opportunity to discuss the applicability of the distributed DIADEM SBR & MCDA approach with both experts in computational and collaborative technologies and experts from the field of disaster management. The presentation stressed the distributed construction of decision-relevant scenarios that provide a rationale for collecting, organizing, filtering and processing information, and the use of MCDA for supporting decision makers in complex situations. Particularly, the combination of a decentralised distributed approach to information retrieval and processing and the decision-centric approach of MCDA, where the information is tailored such that it fits the decision makers’ needs, was appreciated by the workshop’s participants.
