Applus+

The Challenge

In 2005, before the car inspection was liberated in Denmark and "Statens Bilsyn" was to be privatised certain demands were made for efficient financial management and a more flexible organisation. In order to offer the best possible service in terms of short waiting times and expanded service offerings the company decided to centralise staff scheduling. This is to optimize the manning to the expected demand - while keeping focus on having a more detailled, precise and economic staff management.

The Solution

Appllus+ chose PDC StaffPlan which in detail provides the necessary manning in relation to their assignments - no more no less. Each employee's shift is being split up into tasks that match the need for eg. inspection of cars, trucks, etc. In addition comes the task of allocation of lanes at the different locations. Thus Applus+ is certain that present manning will meet the demand in terms of number and qualifications.

The solution also includes features for exchanging employees between the inspection locations. The inspection stations will help each other during vacations and in situations when demand is changing. All internal financial business is handled smoothly in PDC-Staffplan.

In addition, the Applus+ solution has been developed with an internet module that enables the staff to see their work plans via the web browser as well as registering presence and work directly from this module.

The Benefit

PDC-Staffplan was an important tool to implement a restructuring of the organisation that was necessary. As a consequence to the liberalisation Applus+ has adjusted the organisation both man-vice and station vice - since stations have been both closed and opened, opening hours have been adjusted, services have been changed  to keep pace with varying needs and competition. PDC StaffPlan has eased the administration work and supplies a good overview of the work situation.
