Travelling by taxi

Taxis are plentiful in Copenhagen. All taxis are licensed by the authorities and are equipped with meters. Taxis can be flagged down anywhere in the city. If the yellow Taxi light on the roof of the car or in the front window is on, the taxi is available for hire.

Fares

The meter begins at DKK 24 when hailed on the street and DKK 37 when you book over the phone. Plus roughly:

  • DKK 11,50 per km/half mile on weekdays between 07:00 - 16:00
  • DKK 12,50 between 16:00 - 07:00 and all Saturday and Sunday
  • DKK 15,80 Friday - Saturday between 23:00 - 07:00 and all national holidays

Fares include a service charge, so tips are not expected. You can bring a maximum of two bikes for DK 20 extra per bike. Some taxi companies charge DKK 20 to help carry your luggage to the door.

Major credit cards accepted

Most taxis accept major credit cards. Should you wish to pay with a credit card, let the driver know before beginning the trip. On request, taxi drivers will provide you with a computerised receipt for the fare.

Copenhagen Water Taxi

Flyvefisken - the flying fish Prolog Development Center Copenhagen Water Taxi - better known as "Flyvefisken" (the flying fish) - operates in and around the Copenhagen harbour. Many cultural attractions, like the Opera and Royal Playhouse, The little Mermaid and the Black Diamond as well as harbour baths, hotels, restaurants, cafes and beach bars are located on the waterfront, and whereas normal taxis have to navigate around the streets and across bridges to get from one shore to the other, the five water taxis will get you across in five or ten minutes.

The water taxis sail all year round. When the weather is warm one taxi always stops at the beach bar Halvandet. During summer, you can flag them down from shore or you can book over the phone or email. During winter you have to book ahead.
