When planning other journeys using public transportation we recommend that you visit Rejseplanen.dk. This will help you identifying which bus or train lines you need as well as timetables.
Day time busAll normal buses are yellow, yellow and red (A-busses)or yellow and blue (S-busses, which are the fastest ones).Entrance is always in the front, and exit is in the back and in the middle. Bus stops are marked with yellow signs, and you have to push the red stop button when you wish you get off. |

Regional trainsThere are frequent train connections between Copenhagen and other parts of Denmark. The trains depart from Copenhagen Central Station or the station at Copenhagen Airport. Thanks to the bridge between Sealand and Funen, the travel time from eastern to western Denmark is short. |

Cash ticketYou can buy a cash ticket for the number of zones you want to travel. Travelling in two zones (inner city area) for one hour costs DKK 20 for adults. You can buy your ticket at the counter inside the ticket office or in the machines inside the stations. If you take the bus, you can buy your ticket from the driver, but bring coins, not notes. |
|
Discount CardsWe also recommend buying a yellow Discount Card (a 3-zone card for the price of DKK 170,- including 10 trips). Discount Cards can be bought at the train stations in kiosks or from ticket machines. You save approximately 40 percent compared to the fare of a cash ticket. In the busses or at the train platform you must insert the Discount Card into the yellow machine that will time stamp your card.
One tickets is valid for 1 hour and includes changing bus or trains lines. If your journey requires 4-6 zones you must insert your yellow Discount Card twice (and get two time stamps). This way you can travel within 6 zones for 1,5 hour. |

Understanding the Zone systemThe Greater Copenhagen Area is divided into different zones. At bus stops and in stations, you will find coloured zone maps by which you can calculate the fare for your journey. The most expensive coloured zone you pass through on your journey from A to B determines the fare you have to pay. You pay for minimum two zones, maximum nine zones. Metro, bus and train can be combined as much as you like for as long as your ticket is valid. It will say on the back of your ticket. |
